Types of Massage
Massage Therapy is the art of Applying a Variety of Manual Techniques to the Body’s Soft Tissues in order to induce Relaxation of Muscle, Tendon, Fascia and Ligaments. Massage has been used for centuries to treat Pain, Stiffness, Stress, Aid Circulation, Assist Recovery from Injury and Enhance Performance.
Massage has many Health Benefits. Whether it be Relaxation Massage, Therapeutic Massage, Sports Massage, Remedial Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Hot Stone Massage, Lymphatic Drainage Massage, Baby Massage, Pregnancy Massage, Oncology Massage – We have all of these covered. So What is the Difference? Read on to find out.
Relaxation
Stressed? Anxious? Need Time Out? Relaxation Massage is a Gentle, Flowing, Kneading type massage aiming to Destress the body and Reduce Muscle Fatigue. A Light Pressure is applied in a Calm Environment
Therapeutic
Need a Firm Massage or a More Specific Area Worked Upon? Therapeutic is Similar to Relaxation but with a Medium Pressure. Especially good for Post Exercise Soreness or for Higher Stress Levels and Muscle Tension
Sports
Need to Loosen up for an Event? Too much Lactic Acid build up after Training? Need more Flexibility? Sports Massage focuses on Mobility of the Soft Tissues/Joints and may include Stretching and Joint Mobilising Techniques. A Medium to Deep pressure is applied to the Required Area/s.
Remedial
Remedial Massage is More Specific to a Particular Area of Concern. Medium to Firm Pressure is Applied to induce Localized Relaxation of Soft Tissues, Increase Blood Flow, Produce Heat and Relieve Pain. Great for Injury Management and Reducing Joint Pain/Stiffness.
Deep Tissue
Our Most Popular Massage type! Deep Tissue Massage can be Uncomfortable during the Treatment Session but the Benefits Far Outweigh the Soreness afterward. Best for clients who prefer a Deep Pressure or for Particularly Stubborn areas of Soft Tissue or Adhesions/Scarring.
Baby
Even little people love a massage. We can teach parents how to perform a massage on their baby whether it be for bonding, relief of wind, settling – touch is a powerful thing.
Pregnancy
Massage throughout pregnancy has many benefits, especially in the later stages when extra movement, pain relief, relaxation and postural assistance is required. We are often asked, Is it safe? The answer is Yes! By a qualified therapist! Cant lie on your tummy….no problem! Most women are treated on their side or even seated. No matter the position, you will feel better afterwards
Oncology
Light Massage with Slow Steady Movements help the body to relax. This is essential for clients going through cancer treatments which often create pain, swelling, sensory changes, emotional changes and fatigue as examples. A referral is required from your GP as each individual will have different requirements. Your therapist is here to support you through this challenging time.
Hot Stone
Reap the Benefits of Massage and Heat with a Hot Stone Massage. The Heat of the Stones transfers to the soft tissues during a treatment and can be applied for relaxation/therapeutic benefit or used in a deeper manner to help relieve joint/muscle aches and pains.
Lymphatic
Lymphatic Massage is a Gentle form of Massage Therapy designed to move excess fluid towards the lymph nodes so the body can get rid of toxins in the body. Excess Fluid build up causes puffiness, stiffness and swelling in the soft tissues which often leads to pain and decreased mobility.
